OTTOMAN BEDS GAS LIFT STORAGE.

What is a ottoman gas lift bed?

As the name suggests, it’s a bed that has two gas cylinders that resemble bicycle pumps. These sit inside the base, under the slat frame, to allow you to easily lift the slats and mattress so you can store things inside the bed base. It works in a sort of levering fashion and the gas cylinders take the brunt of the weight so you can easily access the storage space even while your bed is made up.

How much weight can a gas lift bed hold?

Depending on the size of the bed you choose, the pressure cylinders will be calibrated to bear the weight of the corresponding mattress size, including all the dressings As you can imagine, these are quite heavy all together so do not lift the base without these things on top as the lack of weight will cause the cylinders to spring open quickly, potentially damaging the bed, twisting the frame.

How do you release a gas lift bed?

The design of the pressure cylinder ensures that when the piston is either in a completely open or completely closed position, it will stay there unless you exert pressure. When it is in the closed position, simply place both hands under the slat frame towards the centre of the foot of the bed, and gently lift. Some beds come with straps for easy lifting. This pulling motion will change the placement of the gas in the cylinder, allowing it to lock into the open position. When you’re all done, place both hands on top of the mattress towards the centre of the foot of the bed and push it down again until it rests in the closed position.
